Think better. Feel better. Live better.
We tend to think of philosophy as a purely theoretical enterprise, as something very remote from the concerns of real life. Although this is true of a great deal of recent academic philosophy, it is not true of the discipline of philosophy itself.
Whenever we seek to objectively examine our basic beliefs, to think carefully and open-mindedly about what is important in human life, to ask probing questions and expose hidden assumptions, we are seeking to practice philosophy, in the original and most important sense of the word.
Philosophy is the craft of thinking deeply; it is the discipline of practicing the principles of reason; it is the pursuit of clarity without gimmicks or shortcuts or double-speak. Philosophy has always been about improving human life through clarity of thought. In philosophical practice, we put this craft to work beyond the classroom and the ivory tower, to address real problems in the real world.
